After Eyelid Surgery Instructions

          After your surgery, apply ice packs to your eyelids for 20 minutes every hour for the first day, then apply the ice packs as often as possible, but at least 3 times a day for 1 week to decrease swelling.  After 1 week, apply warm compresses to the eyelids twice a day for 3 weeks to help with healing.

 

         Sleep with your head elevated on 2 pillows for the first week to decrease swelling.

 

         It is normal for the skin and eyes to sometimes feel itchy and scratchy for the first week after surgery.  It is part of the healing process.  It is normal for the eyelids to be bruised, red, and swollen for one to two weeks after surgery.

 

         You may take Tylenol if you have mild pain.  If you have blurry vision or pain that is not relieved with Tylenol, please let us know right away so that we can help you.  Our 24-hour phone number is (818) 365-9531

 

         No strenuous exercise (running, swimming, etc.) for two weeks after surgery.

 

         You may take a shower below the neck for the first 2 days after surgery, then you may take a regular shower.

 

         It is okay to watch television or read.

 

         No make-up for one week after surgery.  If you normally wear contact lenses, do not wear them for 2 weeks after surgery.

 

         The stitches do not need to be removed.  They usually will dissolve and fall out on their own.

 

Medications

 

Cefaclor - one 250 mg tablet every 8 hours for one week

 

Antibiotic Ointment to the stitches twice a day for one week
